The high costs associated with the use of contaminated drawing oil during aluminum wiredrawing are discussed. Fundamentals of clarification and filtration theory, economic advantages of clarification, actual field conditions of contaminated oil, three basic concepts of clarification equipment (heat-and-hold, filtration, and centrifuge), and typical schemes for new installations or updating existing systems are presented.
