Fire safety cables – Ceramifying silicone rubbers

$15.00

Novel silicone rubbers can be used in the manufacture of safety cables. While burning they turn into a hard ceramic, which insulates electrically up to 950°C, even 1100°C at 1 kV. Reported extrusion speeds of up to 600 meters per min (depending on geometry) allow for more productive manufacture of insulated wire than with traditional mica tape, MgO or related technology. Silicone rubbers are known for their low inflammability and their low toxicity compared to other combustion products.
