Description
This paper presents fracture criteria for C18135 (Cu-0.4Cd-0.4Cr) thin gauge wires utilizing finite element modeling (FEM). Actual microstructural features were embedded in the model utilizing meshing elements of different geometries. Adaptive meshing was done at contact regions for precise results. Tensile data of C18135 specimens were analyzed to predict the point of plasticity saturation and wire breakage. The model predicts the maximum reduction possible before wire failure during drawing.
