Description
This paper describes a new method employing tin for galvano- mechanical plating of 300 series stainless steel fasteners. Tin was chosen as the lubrication metal because of its non-toxic, non-polluting characteristics and its relative ability to be displaced from its salt in solution. A metallograhic evaluation of a fastener thread plated by this method confirmed a microscopic examination which revealed a uniform, continuous, dense coating. Torque data indicated very positive test results when compared with other methods.
