Description
The advantages of cable jacket eccentricity control are well documented in the industry; there are direct savings through reduction in jacket material (polyethylene, etc.) and indirect savings through improvements in product quality. However, an examination of existing installations typically reveals that the controllers are improperly turned and the result is less than optimal wall thickness and eccentricity. This paper demonstrates that a multivariable controller known as Generic Model Control (GMC) based upon a nonlinear model of the process achieves near optimal control with a minimal amount of tuning.
