There is an extensive on-going construction program in China for a new high-speed rail network. The material of choice for the overhead cable system and contact wire is a copper-magnesium alloy, the vast majority of which is being produced in China using Rautomead continuous casting technology. There are also a number of high-speed rail projects currently under consideration and evaluation in the USA.
