A substantial part of wire manufacturing, from the melting of refined copper cathodes (or scrap) to the coiling of final wire, involves heat transfer. A review of the fundamentals of heat transfer and its application to the various stages in the manufacture of copper wire will be highlighted in this paper. Two examples of process analysis and improvement based on heat transfer analysis are presented.
