A totally new system to control the speed of wiredrawing machines opens the way to a considerable increase of production speed and quality. Steel wiredrawing machines today could draw at speeds up to 35 m/s (7,000 fpm), but block cooling capacity limits quality and productivity. The combination of high wire cooling by contact heat transmission with the lower half of the blocks; high wire cooling by high pressure air convection of the loose wire.
