Description
XLPE medium-voltage insulated cables are seen as a commodity and the focus in this segment is on short-term cost savings and less on factors that influence the total lifetime costs of a cable. But recent developments have shown that wet aging properties can be combined with cost-effective high-productivity extrusion performance in a water tree retardant XLPE insulation compound, which has proven to be a reliable, long-life solution. This paper discusses the speed of extrusion and crosslinking as well as wet aging characteristics of this compound.
