The role of high-speed twisting strander lines in the upgrading of communications cable manufacture is presented. Twisting strander lines operating at the same speed as conventional pair or quad twisting machines are possible due to a new SZ twisting method. Capital expense, system setup, the new SZ twist, five-fold twisting equipment, and 13-fold twisting equipment are discussed.
