Description
This paper presents the results of tests of the influence of a hydrodynamic drawing on structure, texture, residual stress, and surface roughness (ASTRO characteristics) of high carbon steel wires. Cementite lamellae orientation in hydrodynamically and conventionally drawn wires were also quantitatively determined. Remarkably, the increase in fatigue limits of hydrodynamically drawn high carbon steel wires as compared to conventionally drawn wires is a result of the drop of residual stress and structure improvement. A method has been proposed to quantitatively estimate the effect of ASTRO characteristics on wire fatigue limits.
