Description
Cold heading technics is continuously requiring wire steels with improved ductility so, as to insure products with reliable good quality, and to decrease tool wear.On a standard steel grade, 37C4 (C=0,37 and Cr = 1 %) for class 10.9 fasteners, Ascometal tried to improve the cold forging behavior of its wires, by either thermomechanical processing, or by slight changes in the chemical composition (residual elements). The cold forging behavior has been appreciated and compared by tests in laboratory (crushing tests, torsion-tensile), and industrially by the cold header. The test results point out the fundamental effect and dominant effect of the chemical analysis.
