Markets for Category 5 cables are growing very fast but that won’t necessarily be true over the next years. Today’s network speeds require channels capable of transmitting ATM 622 Mbps or 1000 Mbps in Gigabit Ethernet (1000 base T). For this reason, specialized organizations are studying and publishing the new cable requirements. This paper will focus on this area.
