This paper provides an overview of closed loop tension control and discusses how it improves many types of wire processing. Examples of closed loop tension control in specific applications (drawing, extruding, stranding, bunching, coating, cabling, etc.) are presented. Also included are a comparison of direct tension control to dancer tensioning systems and a discussion of new trends in tension control.
