In-process wall thickness and eccentricity measurement of three insulation layers during extrusion of medium and high voltage power cables in dry curing CV-lines

$15.00

This paper will introduce a new X-ray system measuring all critical parameters of a power cable at the splice box of nitrogen CV extrusion lines. Measuring results (i.e., individual wall thicknesses, eccentricity, out of round conditions and diameter) collected at a cable manufacturer are presented and explained. Cost savings (with regard to scrap reduction, faster start-ups, and reduced material consumption) are detailed, as are experiences with automatic control of eccentricity and wall thickness.
