Influence of some parameters of drawing carbon steel wires on strain intensities, hydrostatic stress and temperature distributions in the approach zone of a conical die

$15.00

The authors performed FEM simulations with a Forge 2 process of drawing carbon steel wire. This analysis allowed for a determination of the significant influence of die angle, draw speed, friction coefficient and back tension on the values of strain intensity, hydrostatic stress and temperature at the surface and in the axis. The effect of those parameters on draw stress was also determined. It was found that through application of back tension it is possible to improve homogeneity of distribution of strain intensity on the cross-section of the wire.
