Description
This paper discusses how surface roughness of an extrudate depends on extrusion processing conditions. Results of sample test runs with varying extruder barrel temperature, screw speed, and pull tension are presented. This paper also discusses how real-time roughness monitoring can be used as an efficient tool in optimizing cable extrusion processes resulting in improved quality and increased production volume. It is applicable to manufacturing of all types of extruded wires and cables, from thin wires to consumer electronics cables, telecommunication cables and high-capacity power transmission cables.
