Description
This work presents an investigation of the possibilities of manufacturing welding wires from 5.5 mm wire rod coated with copper in an acid bath. A thin sub layer of nickel has been used to assure good adhesivity and airtight electro chemically coated copper layers. The effect has been determined of wire surface treatments such as pickling in H2SO4, in H2SO4 and HNO3, and stream descaling, on the air-tight adhesion of layers of copper and nickel. Drawing tests of copper-coated wire rods have been performed for 1.55 mm wires without annealing and for annealing of 3.99 mm wires.
