Applications of laser technology in wire and cable manufacture are reviewed. These include monitoring outside diameter of insulated wire or cable, calculating average wall thickness, controlling tandem extrusion of insulating and jacketing layers, ensuring homogeneity of capacitance characteristics of wire and cable used in data transmission, and monitoring shrinkage via simultaneous hot end and cold end measurements.
