The use of lubricant coating, which is applied as a dip coating to steel rods prior to drawing for bolt and rivet manufacture, is discussed. No other lubricants are needed during drawing. It is pointed out that this can produce a universal finish; the wire produced can be used for a variety of purposes. The advantages of this universal finish and the types of machines on which it can be used are detailed.
