This paper will review the use of magnetic and magnetic particle brakes for the control of unwind and nip rolls in wire manufacturing processes. It will examine the criteria for sizing/selection and mounting options available. The types of controls for these applications will be reviewed with discussion of the strengths and constraints of each.
