This continuous casting process was invented more than 30 years ago for the production of oxygen-free copper and copper alloys. This paper will present the basics of oxygen-free copper from both theoretical and practical points of view, as well as the manufacturing of Cu-OF wire rod with the UPCAST® process. Recent developments in continuous casting technology by the author’s company will also be presented.
