Insulation compounds represent the second largest cost component in insulated power cables after the metal. The choice of conductor design is a significant driver of this cost. High productivity manufacturing technology options for producing compact conductors in aluminum and copper are discussed. A case study of conversion from Concentric Class B to Compact low-volt insulated conductors is presented.
