A mathematical analysis of wire breaks, specifically ‘center burst’ or ‘cuppy core’, and ‘crow’s feet’ mode is provided. The purpose of this is to survey some fundamental concopts of fracture theory and use these concepts to explain some common modes of wire breakage.
