Producing high-quality wire rod requires both capable rolling mill equipment along with proper practices and controls. While rolling mill equipment determines the sizes and grades that can be rolled, the final mechanical and metallurgical properties depend upon many other factors such as rolling, controlled cooling, and inspection practices, all coordinated and controlled through automation. This paper discusses these factors on wire rod quality with some examples.
