A model is presented for the wiredrawing process of tungsten, with graphite as a solid lubricant. Drawing stress and wire failure are predicted. The model is based on a wiredrawing formula with the frictional shearstress and the metal flowstress further specified. The frictional shearstress is calculated from Vickers hardness measurements on pressed graphite pills.
