Cost-saving trends in communications cable manufacture are reviewed. Substitution of Al for Cu conductor, ITT’s longitudinal wrap/adhesive seal paper insulation process, polyethylene sheathing using a polyethylene-Al laminate moisture barrier, petroleum jelly fill; and crosstalk screens for PCM cables are considered.
