Description
The goal of this study was twofold: improve pour pot/tundish life and develop a test that would correlate field results to a lab test. The results would allow prediction of refractory lining life from lab testing obtained as opposed to having to run tests in the field. The objective was approached by using two proven refractory systems in contact with molten copper and slag—SiC and Cr2O3—to ascertain which refractory system is superior as far as improving lining life. The testing was conducted in the pour pot/tundish but the results would be applicable to slag vessels, furnaces, and launders.
