In the past 20 years or so, the cable industry has become used to electronic gauges for monitoring wire size, capacitance and other parameters. The function of most of these gauges was restricted to measuring a certain parameter at a certain point in the line, asuming constant measuring and operating conditions. The function of these gauges was mostly restricted to display of a value and to signal out-of-tolerance conditions.
