Highlights of experiences with oil tempering installations of the Colorado Fuel and Iron Corp for high carbon spring wire are discussed. The layout of the process at the South San Francisco Wire Mill is described including the nitrogen atmosphere hardening furnace, oil quenching, lead draw furnace, water cooling tower, and surface oiling and wiping tower.
