Wiredrawing roots go back more than 5,000 years to the time of the Egyptian Pharaohs. However, modern technology is a legacy of two distinguished pioneers in our industry: Allan B. Dove and Howard J. Godfrey. This paper reviews this heritage in light of recent technological advancements such as steel making, equipment, environmental constraints and customer requirements, illustrating again the debt the wire industry owes these two gentlemen.
