Description
This paper reviews the conditions in the lubricating layer, between the wire and the die, with emphasis on temperature and pressure. Implications for lubricant state and frictional response follow, and the analyses directly incorporate process parameters and material properties, such as drawing speed, die angle, die contact length, wire strength and lubricant classification. Emphasis is placed on essentially hydrodynamic conditions pertinent to high speed drawing, although many of the concepts are easily extended to other conditions.
