This paper presents a new processing technology to manufacture telephone wires by physical foaming rather than chemical foaming, as is current practice. The target of the development was to create a process that will reach accepted production speeds of foam/skin manufacturing with greater expansion rates of the foam, yet maintaining a consistent capacitance level. These targets are possible with the new ‘Extrucell’ (TM) process.
