Practical application of today’s wall thickness/eccentricity measurement and control technologies to wire and cable manufacture

$15.00

Only recently have practical techniques become available to the wire and cable producer for the reliable, in-line measurement and control of insulation and cable jacket thickness and eccentricity. Potential savings in start-up time, material consumption and scrap reduction are just beginning to be recognized by this industry. This paper explores the application of today’s available, matured technologies (ultrasonic, inductive, X-ray) for this purpose, including the appropriateness of each technology to specific applications and the respective potential benefits to the manufacturer.
