Properties of non-quenched low-carbon high-strength low-alloy steel for cold forging applications

$15.00

A new type of steel wire rods, SNQ has been developed. The wire rod introduced in this report has a fine-grained acicular ferrite microstructure suitable for cold forging. With a process sequence of controlled rolling, cold forming, and tempering, SNQ exhibits an excellent combination of strength, toughness and ductility comparable with that of quench- tempered JIS-SCM 435. Thus, SNQ offers an attractive cost saving due to the complete elimination of rod-annealing, quenching, and straightening processes which are part of the conventional production.
