Description
Styrenic and olefinic thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) are described as outstanding replacements for thermostat rubbers in many wire and cable applications, with especially important applications in flexible cord production. A brief history of TPEs is provided, and the phase composition of the four types of commercial TPEs charted. Ranges of properties (unaged mechanical, electrical, and environmental stability) and performance are reported. The recognition of TPEs by four standardization agencies is described in depth.
