Description
The use of chemical blowing agents in the extrusion of polyethylene insulation for CATV cables and investigations at Union Carbide on an alternative to chemical blowing agents that involves injection of an inert gas directly into the insulant during extrusion are reviewed. The required components of a commerical gas injection system are discussed: a gas injectable compound, constant gas flow rate, and a means of gas-polymer mixing. The attenuation of gas injected and chemically blown cables is compared.
