The present methods used in the manufacture of the replacement ropes for the Brooklyn Bridge are discussed. A comparison between 1880s practices and 1980s manufacturing practices will be made with emphasis on wire making for the refurbishing contract. The stages for the project will be detailed from design and steel selection through fittings, attachment and shipment to the bridge site.
