This paper expands on the Operational Perfection at Southwire (OPS) business philosophy regarding safety. It explains how the safety program is being built through employee involvement in pre-planning; physical equipment safety improvements; behavioral based safety; and obtaining OSHA’s VPP. It also shows how, by focusing on safety, an organization can show improvements in the areas of operating efficiencies; productivity; morale; quality; and reduced workers’ compensation premiums.
