Description
The production of optical fiber through the Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition (MCVD) process is compared with the OVD and VAD preform manufacturing processes. Advantages of the MCVD process include high quality graded-index and single-mode fibers with high production efficiency, highly automated production, high production yield, and flexibility to all common types of optical fibers. Extensive discussion of the MCVD process, from manufacturing steps to fiber facility, is reviewed in detail.
