High strength/ low alloys are low-carbon steels containing small amounts of vanadium, columbium, copper and other alloying elements. The additions provide yield and tensile strengths higher than average. Four criteria in selecting the proper grade of wire for the welding task in relation to matching wire /steel chemistry and strength are the focus of this article. Suggested AWS standard wires are given.
