This study examined 36 different variables in the manufacture of high-quality construction nails, including quenching and tempering conditions. The study confirms that steel grades D35, D40, and D55 can be used for manufacturing high-quality nails in conditions of carefully controlled heat treatment. Steel grade D40 was found to be a particularly economical choice.
