An innovative design by Stelco Inc. for a one die wiredrawing machine, the Stelblock, is described. Traditional bullblock and deadblock machines are compared with the new design. Objectives in designing the new machine included addressing problems such as a)increasing RT/CT ratio; b)running the unit quickly; c)reducing space requirements and building costs; d)reducing machine price; and e)reducing operator fatigue.
