Organizations that use wire rope need risk- and reliability-centered planning, value-added planning, and life cycle planning for optimal operation in a safe, reliable, cost-effective, and consistent manner. This paper presents an investigation, study, and evaluation of wire rope behavior for improvement of safe use through an objective, reliable, and documented evaluation of rope condition and timely replacement; a cost-benefit analysis; overall maintenance planning; expected life and performance; resource requirements; and external service provider requirements.
