Stress corrosion resistance in high tensile steel wire for prestressed concrete is discussed. Research on the susceptibility of oil tempered wire and hard drawn wire to stress corrosion, effects of initial surface corrosions, and effects of marine exposure is reported. It is concluded that exposure to nitrate solutions results in stress corrosion failure of steel wire.
