Description
‘Tensile properties of insulated electrical conductor,’by Roger N. Wright, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Kevin Patenaude, University of Massachusetts at Lowell, USA.70th Annual Convention, 2000, Session 11 – Insulated Conductors Nashville, Tenn., USARealistic assessment of the mechanical properties of insulated electrical conductor must include the composite behavior of both the conductor and its insulation. Toward this end, PVC-insulated 8 AWG copper wire has been tensile tested, and compared to the tensile properties of the bare copper and the insulation, tested separately. Rule-of-mixtures analysis has been applied in an effort to interpret unique features of the composite tensile curve.
