The advantages of Alumoweld® fasteners in pressure treated wood

Electroplated galvanized nails are not recognized as being corrosion resistant in exterior applications due to the thin layer of zinc that is applied and the galvanic reaction that occurs between the zinc in the plating and the copper in the pressure treated lumber. This leaves stainless steel nails as the only seemingly viable alternative to insure a pressure treated lumber structure that will stand the test of time. However, as this paper will document, Alumoweld® wire (an aluminum clad steel bi-metallic wire) can be used to manufacture fasteners that will stand up to the new chemicals.
