The SCR Technologies division of Southwire Company, LLC has recently introduced the Ultra-Dâ„¢ degasser which ultrasonically removes hydrogen gas, alkali metals, and other harmful inclusions from molten aluminum without the use of corrosive chemicals such as chlorine. This patented technology was developed at rod mills where three lines are used to produce 14 different aluminum alloys used primarily in the electrical industry. This paper explores the development and implementation of the technology as well as operating results when used in continuous rod production.
