Description
Recently, Corus has developed a steel which can be used for 8.8-type strength applications without the requirement for final quenching and tempering, offering significant cost savings. Corus has achieved this objective by selecting a chemical analysis which, in combination with a purpose-designed controlled cooling regime in the rod mill, generates a dual phase microstructure. This structure provides an excellent combination of strength and ductility due to the controlled dispersion of martensite in a ferrite matrix, and offers potential benefits for many fastener applications.
