A new patenting process that employs repeated rapid-heating to refine the austenitic grain and thus improve the ductility, tensile strength, and reduction in area of 0.8% C steel wire rod is presented. The sequence entails induction heating, oil quenching, heating to 850-1000~C, and transformation in a conventional lead bath.
